Smith & Wesson makes some of the world’s best firearms. The company has been designing and building guns since 1856, so it has had plenty of opportunities to perfect its approach. Still, S&W makes a wide range of handguns. Compare Smith & Wesson Shield VS Smith & Wesson M&P Series to determine which option matches your needs.

Specifications of the Smith & Wesson Shield

Many people prefer the Smith & Wesson Shield because it has a small, lightweight design that makes it an excellent CCW.

The Shield has an overall length of just 6.1 inches, which makes it easy to conceal. It only weighs 20.5 ounces, so you can carry it all day without feeling fatigued.

The Smith & Wesson Shield can carry either 7+1 or 8+1 9mm rounds. That doesn’t give you a lot of shots, but it’s a small sacrifice to make when you want a CCW that no one knows you’re carrying. If you value stealth, you should put this gun near the top of your list.

Specifications of the Smith & Wesson M&P Series

Smith & Wesson makes several handguns for its M&P Series. For brevity’s sake, let’s look at the M&P M2.0, M2.0 Compact, and M2.0 Subcompact.

M&P M2.0

The M&P M2.0 is a fairly large gun that some people will prefer carrying in on OWB holster. It measures 8.3 inches long, so it’s difficult to imagine an average-sized person keeping it in an IWB holster without feeling uncomfortable. The 29.7-ounce weight is pretty light, though, for such a big weapon.

If you want a lot of shots, then this is the gun for you. You can carry 17+1 9mm rounds! With up to 1=8 shots, you will have plenty of chances to secure dangerous situations.

M2.0 Compact

The M2.0 Compact isn’t that much smaller than the regular M2.0. At 7.9 inches and 27.2 ounces, some people will find it a bit too large for daily carrying.

The smaller size also means that you might lose capacity. Some versions of the M2.0 Compact carry 10+1 9mm rounds. You can, however, upgrade to a 15+1 round version.

M2.0 Subcompact

The M&P M2.0 Subcompact has a lot of terrific features. It has a relatively small size with an overall length of 6.6 inches and a weight of 25.2 ounces. Granted, you can only carry 10+1 rounds. For most everyday carriers, though, that’s plenty of shots.

The M2.0 Subcompact also stands out because it complies with the high expectations of Massachusetts CCW laws.

Choosing the Right Gun for You

No gun can meet everyone’s concealed carry needs. If you want a gun that you can conceal easily, then you should probably choose the Smith & Wesson Shield or the M2.0 Subcompact. If you want more shots and don’t mind carrying a larger weapon, then take a closer look at the M2.0 and M2.0 Compact.

No matter which handgun you prefer, you get the expert construction and reliability of Smith & Wesson. It’s hard to make a bad choice when you stick to some of the most trusted guns in the world.
